You're the first person patients talk to and the last person they see on the way out. This role is part scheduling, part insurance navigation, part patient advocate. We need someone who's organized, warm on the phone, and comfortable explaining treatment plans and costs in plain language. If you're the kind of person who remembers names and follows up without being asked, you'll do well here.
What you'll do
- Greet patients, manage check-in and check-out, and maintain a welcoming front desk
- Schedule appointments efficiently across multiple providers and operatories
- Present treatment plans to patients and explain costs, timelines, and options
- Process insurance claims, pre-authorizations, and coordinate benefits
- Answer phones, respond to emails, and handle online booking inquiries
- Follow up on outstanding treatment, recalls, and overdue appointments
- Manage patient records and ensure accuracy across systems
- Coordinate referrals to specialists when needed
What we're looking for
- Previous experience in a dental office or healthcare front desk role
- Strong understanding of dental insurance billing (NIHB, private plans, coordination of benefits)
- Proficiency with dental practice management software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to multitask in a busy environment
- Professional and empathetic — patients trust you with personal and financial information
Nice to have
- Experience with NIHB (Non-Insured Health Benefits) claims processing
- Formal dental office administration training
- Knowledge of dental terminology and common procedures
What we offer
About Great Slave Dental
Great Slave Dental has been serving Yellowknife since 2001 — and there's been a dental practice at this address since the 1980s. We're a family practice downtown on 48th Street, handling everything from children's first visits to bigger restorative cases, and referring on where a specialist is the right call. Our team is small enough that everyone knows each other. We invest in equipment, continuing education, and the kind of culture that makes people stay.
